a visit to an art museum

A couple of weeks ago,
for a children's event.
I thought I should post a link here in case someone's interested.

~~~~~
My mosaic shows postcards from paintings exhibited at the museum over the years. I bought postcards of five paintings two from each. Some of them are scattered around my place, and some around the world
(via snail mail)
~~~~~

The photo below shows a team project (a collage) made by a group of 5-year-old kids who attended a workshop.

"Our Solar System"

It's huge and really impressive. I took the photo with my mobile and it doesn't do it any justice really!

~~~~~
And here's the result after I played a little with crayons.
I've been painting/colouring a lot these past few days, spending time with my son.
harmony and tranquillity in shades of blue and purple
(first of all, please excuse the poor quality of the photos; my camera is in Austria with hubby and I'm using my mobile)
~~~~~~

As I was folding the laundry today, I noticed a harmony in the colours.
This made me feel peaceful for some reason.
I got my mobile and 'click', captured the moment.

Later, when little one invited me to his 'fortress', I saw the same colours. "How serene!", I thought. 'Click'

Just as the sun was setting, I looked out the window. There it was; the same colour scheme. 'Click'

"Is there some kind of a hidden message here?", I wondered.

"Ok, then! I'll play along. Let's read this book tonight!" "Click'

After putting little one to bed, I went to my bedroom....where...

a magazine with a purple-ish cover lay on my blue bedspread!
I didn't expect that! 'Click'

Then I remembered what was under the bedspread! 'Click'

I couldn't wait till tomorrow to share the broad smile on my face.
I had to show you now.
So now that I have, I'm going to have a shower, put my pjs on and go to bed happy and peaceful.
I only wish I had my camera today.

stormy afternoons

I haven't posted a photo of our sky for ages
and this cloud was definitely not to be missed!

After a while....

Lately, we've had the following pattern:
hot mornings, stormy afternoons, pleasantly cool evenings~
I love it!

something from the past

back to Friday...

as I told you, I bought a couple of things I'm very pleased with.

On my way to the bus stop, I spotted a little shop with a collection of finds from the past on sale.
What had drawn my attention was this vintage hanger with the lovely flower drawings, calling my name from the small window display.
I bought it instantly and turned my attention to the books.
I left the shop with two volumes of the
Reader's Digest Condensed Books.

I love the flowers on the hanger! (more painted flowers; a coincidence?)

I love the book covers!
And their smell! Oh, what a great smell of old books they have!
They were published in 1968 and if you want to read the titles click on the above image.

There are drawings, pictures and even a map inside and I can't wait to start reading.

"rainbow"

sunday morning~
hubby is away on business~
I went to bed at 3 in the morning~
little one woke up at 7~
I manage to nap a bit in his room while he plays with his legos~
at 8, he's all ready for his usual 'loud' play~
now what?~
I can't stand noise~
think, woman! think!~
'how about playing "rainbow" on the balcony?'~
yay! he gets excited!~
brushes, watercolours, drawing pad, milk, coffee, magazine~
ready:
"so, tell us my little friend, how old are you?"
"I'm five, Mr Chris"~
phew! all's well that ends well!

'Rainbow' is the name of a children's programme we watch every afternoon after school; the host reads letters, makes crafts, chooses books and welcomes children to the studio, where they paint and talk about themselves.

I have to say, it was quick thinking on my part, which proved to be very successful!

PS. Excuse the punctuation; I felt like playing a bit.

at the city centre? physically, yes - mentally, no!

Going to the city centre
~ by bus
~ in the summer
~ for boring paperwork business...
is simply out of the question...
unless...
...
...
there's some kind of lure;
for me that's two words: shopping + coffee.
...
...
So once the boring business was out of the way,
I got myself some eye-candy (see picture below)
and headed towards my favourite cafe.
It's on the first floor (second if you are in the States)
on the busiest street,
and there are plants on the windowsills to keep the city out!

I know the pictures are lame - I took them with my mobile- but I wanted to show you this little poem that was written with pencil on the windowsill; apparently, this girl saw someone she liked there and started going back again and again in case he appeared too but she had no luck and expressed her disappointment by writing a poem there. The last line is:

"I came...where are you?"

The cafe has a collection of books and magazines if you want to read something while you're there -I did prefer my magazines though today-
and often hosts art exhibitions.
Today, I found these wonderful flower paintings there
which made my day!
Having coffee with a magazine full of countryside images and flower paintings all around.... bliss!

As for the shopping part,
I made some purchases I'm very happy with,
but this has to wait for another post.

Hope you all have a gorgeous weekend!

arts united

~ nature's art
~a famous painter's art (Monet)
~ my 'art'
~~~~~
I took these pictures this morning.
We're having a slow Saturday after a wonderful Friday evening -
it was the end-of-the-school-year event yesterday at my school;
lots of fun.
One of my classes performed a little play in English;
I'm very proud of them - they did great!
Another class gave me a little plant (see pictures above).
We (teachers and our families) went to a taverna afterwards.
I really can't remember the last time I had so much fun!
~~~~~
Now I need to see if my pastitsio is ready to get out of the oven (yum, yum!)
~~~~~
Have a beautiful weekend!
on friendship...
On Wednesday, I told my best friend over the phone
that I won't be working on Friday (today)
and that I really needed to spend the whole morning
ironing our summer clothes and putting our winter ones away;
that I couldn't afford to waste another day - it had become too stressful.
This morning, at around 11, she called and said,
"I hope you're doing some work there!"
She usually tells me not to worry about the housework,
and it will get done eventually.
This time, she saw it was getting to me and that procrastination was not an option,
so she thought she should remind me of what I had to do.
It really gave me a boost!
~~~~~
The photo shows a batch of biscuits I made for her a couple of months ago.
