January 2011

Here we are in the new year!
Do you feel that when the year changes it's a new beginning or do you perceive time as a continuation with New Year's Day being just another celebration?
I stand somewhere in between I'd say. I'm not the sort of person who would make a list of resolutions, choose a word or phrase to live by or anything like that. However, I do get inspired by other people's resolutions or goals (Cassie has a lovely list here) and words ( I love Kamana's word here).
I do spend some time thinking of what I would like to change or add to my life, though I don't make any promises to myself. It's more on a 'become-a-better-mum/wife/teacher/self' level; nothing specific.
(Well, there's just one thing I need to work harder on: schedule a very specific day and time for ironing!!! Sometimes I realise that if something unexpected happens, I won't have enough pressed clothes to pack a bag!)
How about you? Do you grab a pen and paper and jot everything down even before the new year begins or do you just go with the flow?

On a different note, our days here at home have been slow most of the time (well, apart from Christmas Eve which was hectic)-
lots of playdates for little one, a bit of shopping, a visit to the cinema with my son's friends, friends over for a glass of wine (or two...), family meals...
and... from all the chores in my list I only managed one: I had my sewing machine fixed. Yay!!!
We're going back to our remote little village on Saturday and schools start on Monday the 10th; so we still have time to see daddy and more friends.
~~~~
Have a blessed 2011 everyone!
Spread some love and joy!
I guess I am a bit like you in that I see the new year as a suitable point to make some new beginnings and those beginnings are not concrete resolutions which I know I will never keep but rather more general - eat more healthily, waste less and so on. Happy New Year to you and your family and hope you will enjoy the rest of your stay before leaving for your other home and the new school term.
I don't make New Year resolutions - if I get an idea to do something better, I'll just try to start then. It's a constant thing.
I need too much improving to be waiting for the new year to be starting over! :)
Happy New Year, Yiota!
I do see the beginning of a new year as a bit of a fresh start. I'm going to try little goals, a resolution each week... I want to feel successful so I'm not choosing anything too big. Just little things to help me be a better person, a better mum, a better me.
Cute play-dough ornaments! New Year's is one of my favorites times. I use it to reflect but also to CLEAN OUT, reorganize, and give things away. I love the feeling!
(Good luck with that ironing!)
Thank you for mentioning my little list dear Yiota. I too should follow your lead though and make a day for ironing. I have spent far too many hours today ironing and more ironing. I had a real mountain to tackle!
Wishing you the very best for 2011, may it be a happy, healthy and prosperous one.
xx
Happy New Year Yiota! Thank you for visiting me today ;) I'm so happy to hear that you liked Lessons at Blackberry Inn as much I did. So comforting!
Ironing, yuck! I try hard to never have to iron. Even it means that I just throw in the dryer with a wet towel ;) good for you though!
Have a wonderful day Yiota!
Happy New Year, Yiota :-)
I don't really make firm resolutions, just sort of hope I'll improve in little ways as I go along (though I don't improve :-/)
Happy New Year, dear Yiota!
Well, I try to be always optimistic about starting a new year. It's like trying to reset the bad things and make them better or into a better way :) I don't use to write a list but I always think positive on the goals I really wish to achieve ;)
