Patience

The Greek name for this plant means 'Patience' because it takes a while to bloom as the florist explained to me yesterday.

I was thinking about patience as I was looking for the perfect spot for my new little plant. Now that schools have started - first classes tomorrow - I need to remind myself that I have to be patient at work... and to be honest that is one of the virtues I don't possess.

I looked up some quotes about patience as a reminder of how important it is.

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. ~Franklin P. Jones

How can a society that exists on instant mashed potatoes, packaged cake mixes, frozen dinners, and instant cameras teach patience to its young? ~Paul Sweeney

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish. ~John Quincy Adams

I have one of those plants - called a Christmas cactus here which we had as a present for our first Christmas after our marriage 37 years ago! It probably isn't the exact same plant but a cutting off a cutting off ... if you know what I mean but there is still some of the original in there somewhere. I'll take a picture of it and post it later although mine is not in flower at the moment.

I loved the second quote sadly I learned that I am sadly lacking in the patience department!

What a beautiful patience reminder you found & a nice place to put it as well. You are a teacher - correct? - if so you might want one for your desk as well! :)

I particularly like the 3rd quote ... Even I chuckle to think of (tho' I have bought) how ridiculous it seems to buy salad in a bag :)

So lovely to read this post! Here the plant is known as Spring Cactus or Christmas cactus (depending on when it flowers!) and we have another flower called patience!
It is good to think about patience in the rushing greedy world!

ARGH! I completely understand! I recently started working with a 5-year-old (the youngest student I've ever worked with) and he's taught me A LOT about how little patience I have!
